Thompson Square Conservation Management Plan
Thompson Square and its immediate surrounds is recognised as the oldest surviving public square in Australia, dating from the 1790s and formally named in 1811 by Governor Macquarie. The conservation area is listed on the NSW State Heritage Register and in the Hawkesbury City Council’s Local Environmental Plan 2012.
The purpose of the Thompson Square Conservation Management Plan is to ensure that the historically significant features of the Thompson Square Conservation Area are preserved for the future generations. Given there are a number of matters which have the potential to affect the Thompson Square precinct and its surrounding areas, particularly in respect to development pressures and ageing infrastructure, this Conservation Management Plan has been prepared to enable its better conservation and management by Hawkesbury City Council and other relevant authorities.
