20 March 2025

Picture of a dead tree in McQuade ParkThe urgent removal of 24 dead and dying trees at McQuade Park will commence on Monday 24 March 2025, weather permitting, and will take approximately one week.

These trees were identified during a comprehensive assessment of the health and condition of trees in the park. They present a risk to the safety of park users.

Trees at the Hawkesbury Valley Way intersections with Moses Street and George Street, and one fronting Tebbutt Street at the grandstand driveway, will be removed first and will require a crane and traffic control on Moses Street and Hawkesbury Valley Way on the Monday. The remainder of the trees will then follow. Any nests in the trees will be carefully relocated.

An ecologist will be onsite throughout Monday. The trees on Moses Street and Tebbutt Street will be removed after the school morning rush.

Soil rehabilitation and improvement will take place to support the replanting of lost trees. Locations and timing of this replanting will be determined as part of the drafting of the updated McQuade Park Masterplan, which commences in the first half of this year.

Council takes its commitments to community safety and the preservation of local environment and heritage very seriously.
