29 January 2025

Australia Day 2025 hit new highs at Hawkesbury City Council with the Australia Day Awards enhanced by  the joyous performance of the Australia Day Ambassadors, the StarAbility Dance Performance Group.

The seasoned Australia Day Ambassadors of 19 years delighted the dignitaries and award guests with their uplifting performance.

StarAbility Dancers perform

Since 2006, this incredible group has been spreading joy through their performances, fundraising and community outreach.

StarAbility spokesperson, Melissa Eustace, inspired everyone with her infectious positivity, saying: “We love supporting our community, we love to dance, perform and give joy to our audience wherever we go. I am pleased to let you know that we have raised in excess of $2 million dollars to assist people with disability to dance and play sport.

“We have celebrated Australia Day in Sydney, Newcastle, Kiama, Mt Kosciusko, Bingara, Bathurst, the Blue Mountains, Wyong and many more places and how wonderful it is to now add Hawkesbury to our list…how lucky are we!

“We love that we make a positive difference in our communities wherever we go. It is important we all try to make Australia a better country every day!”

The StarAbility Dance Performance Group warmed up the audience ahead of the announcement of Hawkesbury Council’s Australia Day 2025 Award winners: Citizen of the Year - Sarah Cassim, Young Citizen of the Year - Andrew Scarsbrook, Community Organisation of the Year - The Jeremiah Project, Sports Person of the Year - Indy Aquilina, Local Hero Award (x 2) - Warren Doyle and Chris Underwood, Environmental Award - Chris Underwood, Arts and Culture Award - The Richmond Players.
