Community Recycling Centre Update

11 February 2025

The recent industrial fire at the Cleanaway Chemical Waste Recycling Facility in St Mary’s has had a flow on effect to Hawkesbury City Council’s Community Recycling Centre at 1 The Driftway, South Windsor.

Because Council can only store a certain number of Community Recycling Centre items, due to our environmental obligations, the following changes are in place until further notice.

The facility is currently unable to receive:

  • paint
  • non-motor oils

The facility has limited capacity for:

  • gas bottles
  • fire extinguishers
  • large, embedded batteries (e-bikes, scooters, toy cars etc)

waste management

The Community Recycling Centre will continue to receive motor oil, household batteries and smoke detectors. The EPA and Cleanaway are in discussions about resuming collections from Monday 17 February. We will keep residents updated as new information comes to hand.

Please note that no other waste streams are affected, and the facility continues to operate seven days a week between 8am-4pm with last entry at 3:45pm.

Search the Council’s waste dashboard to find out how to recycle or dispose of your unwanted items.
