The 12 elected Councillors took the Oath of Office and sworn Affirmations at the commencement of the Council Meeting. A Smoking Ceremony was held in the garden outside the Council Chambers, prior to the meeting.

Mayor Sheather said he was honoured at the opportunity to serve the Hawkesbury as Mayor and vowed to work closely with the community.

“I want to build strong connections between Council and the community. I have a had a lot of conversations with a lot of people over the years and I have heard their frustration. We have done a lot to be proud of as a Council but sadly this sentiment isn’t being shared in our community. A lot of people don’t feel that their voices are being heard," Mayor Shealther said.

“The Hawkesbury is a great place, but there is a lot of division out there at the moment. We need to bring people together, and the more people we involve in our decisions, the better the outcomes will be. This includes all of my Councillor colleagues. We all have an important role to play and I want to involve all Councillors as much as I can.”

Councillor Sheather’s term as Mayor will run for two years until September 2026.
