NSW RFS Get ready weekend

Looking for a new activity during lockdown? The NSW Rural Fire Service has an idea – Get ready.

The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) is urging landholders to prepare now for bushfire season and Hawkesbury City Council is on board with the message too, the Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Patrick Conolly said.

“The Hawkesbury, along with so many parts of Australia, has seen devastating bushfires, and communities are in ongoing recovery from the fires,” the Mayor said.

“The NSW RFS is leading Get Ready Weekend over 10-11 September and landholders are encouraged to prepare bushfire plans, prepare your properties and seek advice from their local brigades.”

The weekend events have been moved online due to COVID-19.

The Get Ready Weekend is a two-day awareness campaign encouraging property owners to prepare for bushfires.

Landholders are advised to sit down with their families to prepare a plan and seek advice from their local brigade. If you already have a plan, take time to sit down and revise it together. Use your time well to prepare your home and property against bushfire.

3. Make a plan with your family.

NSW RFS brigades across NSW will be holding online meetings and conducting campaigns on their social media channels to encourage everyone to Get Ready. Check out your local brigade's social media channels to find out more.

“The NSW RFS has been busy undertaking hazard reduction burns where possible in preparation for the upcoming season,” Mayor Conolly said.

“Now we need to do our bit and be prepared to help ourselves and make their task easier.”

More than 100 brigades across NSW will take part in Get Ready Weekend.
